INCOME GENERATING ACTIVITIES - VVF PROJECT

Skills Empowerment is among the major components of rehabilitation outlined by FORWARD Nigeria to its VVF clients. As statistics have shown, most of the VVF clients usually depend solely on their husbands for their welfare and that of the family. Surveys have also indicated that the vicious cycle of poverty will continue if the woman does not have the means to contribute to the family up keep.

In this regard, FORWARD Nigeria outlines skills empowerment as a support tool to the clients. The VVF Hostel, Dambatta is a rehabilitation center where clients undergo numerous skills training such as bead making, pomade making, knitting and sewing.

Usually the clients are split into groups of four depending on the kind of skills taught. Similarly this method assists in giving individual attention using smaller numbers. The clients produce beads, bags, pomade and shawls which are sold and the proceeds are used to purchase more raw materials as to increase production.

After graduation, clients are given a loan in kind to assistwith purchase of raw materials to put into practice the mastered the skills in different trades, they return home and hopefully become self-reliant and are able to sustain themselves and even their immediate family.
